The rising cost of health care and the high prices of new biotechnology drugs lead many experts to predict that new policies and new technologies to trim costs will soon be forthcoming. New policies may require price controls or incentives to reduce costs. New technologies may improve manufacturing efficiency resulting in reduced biotech medicine costs in the future.

One area of research that holds the promise of reducing costs and improving worldwide access to the benefits of biotech is the production of therapeutic proteins and vaccines in living green plants. Scientific research using this technology has shown repeated successes. This technology is not yet in mainstream pharmceutical industry use, but it may be a very good time for an investor to seriously consider taking a stake in its bright future.

There are three little known companies leading the research pack in this new green revolution. Sembiosys Genetics Inc of Calgary, Alberta (Toronto: SBS) is producing insulin in plants, and through its subsidiary, Botaneco, is collaborating with MannKind Corporation (Nasdaq:MNKD) on its commercial development.

In Newark, Delaware, iBioPharma Inc (OTCBB: IBPM) is collaborating with the Fraunhofer U.S.A. Center for Molecular Biotechnology, with funding by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, to develop plant-made vaccines for influenza and other infectious diseases. IBioPharma recently announced new funding from the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency for further development of green plant technology to meet various biodefense objectives.

A third company, well financed but still private, worth keeping an eye on. Biolex Therapeutics is developing human interferon made in a small floating plant called duck weed, and has already advanced its candidate product into phase 2 human clinical trials.

We’ve been told for a long time that vegetables and fruit are good for our health. Plant-made pharmaceutical companies may not only be good for our health, but also our investment portfolios.

It has never been easier to start buying gold coins. Gold investments have always been the best choice in a bear market. The world is finding out just what fiat money is really worth: nada. There are many kinds of investments, and they all hold merit, but gold is a solid consistent value. For thousands of years, gold has stood the test of time. Every person in every country recognizes gold as the standard for wealth. Human’s history clearly shows this. The value of gold is dictated by the demand, in bad economies gold is worth a good deal. To truly recession-proof your investments, put your assets in physical gold. You can’t go wrong buying the Krugerrand.

Look at the list below to understand how gold bullion makes the best investment:

1) A benchmark of wealth has always been the value of gold. There is little chance this will change as paper money is devaluing so quickly.

2) Buying gold coins is the quickest and simplest way to invest in gold. This strategy is the easiest to understand when protecting your wealth.

3) Krugerrands are highly desirable gold commodities, so you can quickly convert them to cash in an emergency. The South African Krugerrand is highly liquid and desirable to collectors. The liquidity alone makes gold Krugerrand coins highly attractive additions to your portfolio.

4) The volume to value ratio is very high with gold coins, making them a good commodity. You can carry all your investment in your briefcase this way. Average citizens can easily purchase gold bullion as an investment.

5) It doesn’t get much more straightforward than buying gold. The concept of gold as a secure safe haven investment is obvious. The authenticity of a gold Krugerrand is easily verified. You never have to wonder how much your gold is actually worth, the spot price is posted online daily.

As the worlds economy spins downward, gold and silver bullion is a safe haven investment. Many will try to convince you to buy a gold ETF, which is essentially buying stock in somebody elses company. Letting others manage our wealth for us has resulted in this current crisis. Get in the driver’s seat with your money and invest for the future with gold bullion.

0

Risk tolerance is crucial for beginner stock market investing. When you’re just studying how to invest in the stock market, you’ll start to see that each person has his or her own risk tolerance level that should be honored and taken into account. The investment professional you choose should know this so he can best assist you with finding out your own personal risk tolerance level. Then, that professional should help you determine which investment vehicles fit your risk level.

It’s commonly assumed that “risk tolerance” refers only to how you feel about risk. That’s just not true. Actually, a lot is involved with determining your personal tolerance for financial risk, and emotions are only a piece of the overall picture.

Determining your risk tolerance, with regards to beginner stock market investing, requires awareness of multiple factors. One of those factors being that you know how much investment capital you have available, and the other is your thorough awareness of your financial end game. For example, if you plan to take retirement in 12 years and you haven’t accumulated any money in your savings account,’ you will need to sustain a high risk tolerance and do some hard line investing to have enough cash to retire.

Conversely, if you begin investing for your retirement in your early twenties, your stock market investing advice tolerance toward risk can remain low. Starting early will allow you to grow your money slowly. When you factor this in with your emotional response to financial risk, you will have the investment mix that’s right for you. It’s hard to ascertain this for yourself, so it’s best to use a good financial planner or stock broker who can help you determine the risk tolerance you’re comfortable with, and assist you with selecting appropriate investment vehicles.

Determining your personal risk tolerance will let you establish your own investment rhythm and allow you and the investment professional you choose to invest with confidence. In spite of their being multiple investment vehicles there are really only three specific investment styles – and those three styles tie in with your risk tolerance. The three investment styles are conservative, moderate, and aggressive. But I will cover those in another article!

0

Investment profitability can be extremely hard to achieve even for the brightest individuals around. Although there is a wealth of available approaches, guidelines, and systems for becoming more profitable in trading, you must find the one that works for you as determined by your investing personality. You need to be comfortable with your approach, with your various actions, and with your software programs. Each investor is different and their trading styles differ too.

To be profitable, you must treat trading like a business and keep your head. To do that you need valuable and useful information that you can assimilate in a short period of time.

My main goal in writing here is to drastically abbreviate the length of time it takes you to become a successful investor, to help you avoid fiscal losses, and to aid you in achieving significant profitability. I want to provide the knowledge that will protect you when you and your capital go out to do battle in the market.

Time is money. Let’s get started. While doing research on trading, I discovered a very subtle, almost hidden, phenomenon that gave me further insight into why hundreds of thousands of otherwise successful people with above average intelligence can’t seem to cut it as traders. I’m referring to something that happens–not a character trait.

I know many qualified brokers who have dozens of patrons who are shrewd, prosperous people”"outside of trading. These folks appear to have all the correct traits, yet for some odd reason, they do things during trading which they would never do in a profit making business. These brokers question why so many individuals appear to take leave of their senses when trading.

The solution is frustrating and elusive not just for brokers but also for traders. The traders, after all, are the ones who are losing the money via their own crazy behavior.

The reason for that is what I call The Subtle Trap of Trading. It’s found in Futures, Stocks and Forex markets. As you read the following, you may get the same thought that came to me:

This reeks of a conspiracy!

While I’m not convinced that it does, the “system” certainly appears to operate to the advantage of a small number at the cost of the majority.

Everything caught up in the trading industries appears quite straightforward, but when you take a closer look at the way things work collectively, you begin to comprehend something that not many others do, and you will start to understand why so many individuals wind up aggravated, mixed up and losing money in the markets.

I call it a trap for good reason because most traders will struggle and continue to lose money until their account is wiped out. Sometimes it has them so trapped that it even goes beyond their account into non-risk capital.

The Way that the Snare is Set

Back when you first heard about stock investing –long term investing, not day trading– you were cautioned to do research before investing and to learn the things that made for a good company to invest in.

You found there is a great deal to learn prior to investing in a company. You must learn all about the industry, the market position, current management, competitive advantage and track record, how to read the company’s annual reports and financial statements, and so on. It is truly quite a bit to learn.

Be safe and choose wisely, you’re in it for the long term is good advice you probably heard. A fundamental principle on the road to trading profit. Perhaps your investing consisted exclusively of mutual funds and a 401k. Safe, simple and easy, and well within the comfort zone.

But, somewhere along the way, you heard about the wonderful world of the profitable commodities markets. You heard how simple it is and about the fantastic leverage involved.

Also, commodities are not businesses that necessitate investigation to grasp. They are materials, products you have known all your life. Precious metals, oats, maize, soy, alfalfa, coal, oil, and so on. They are universally known.

So this is the location of where the trap is.

Several things work in combination to make up the trap, and the first one is familiarity. This one fact is very subtle yet has an incredibly potent effect upon you and your trading.

The following article examines the remainder of the parts of the snare that transforms smart, effective individuals into floundering traders making uninformed choices and suffering huge losses of funds – willingly – when they ought to be realizing profitable trades.

Many of the great traders before the information craze started, basically studied their trading charts, read books and learned from other successful traders. If this was the standard before the Internet came, than it can be adhered today.

The only real teacher in how to learn to trade futures, is the actual market itself. Also
there are lots of good books on the subject of learning to trade futures, so it may be
a good idea to utilize those resources first, before dropping thousands into a trading course.

Another idea that you can perform, is take that money you had set aside for a course, and input that money into your trading account. If you take a look at the statistics, it basically shows that having a larger trading account, tends to give you more staying power in trading as you can withstand losses without it wiping you out.

If you are a newbie to trading futures, than by all means utilize what is at your local bookstore and
research the topic of futures trading on the Internet. There’s ton’s of free information that can help you become a better futures investor. Learn how to manage your losses first, and than maybe find a couple of trading setups to implement into your overall trading strategy. Don’t overwhelm yourself with too many setups at first

As you learn these strategies, cautiously implement them into your trading plan. Watch and see how these strategies work in live trading and take what you think fits your trading style, and toss those ideas which don’t. Successful futures trading takes practice and sometimes losing money. As long as you learn when you lose, you will be OK. Just don’t lose in big chunks.

Even if you found good information on the internet for free, you still need to see if it fits your trading style.

Now if you’re set on buying that commodity futures trading course, search the Internet for reviews on the course, or ask others in a community environment like forums or blogs that focus specifically on futures related topics. Post questions on those community websites to find out if the people who bought them were satisfied with the course and if it poses a real value to them. Ask them what the courses short comings so that if and when you buy it, you won’t be surprised and upset for spending your money on it.

1031 Exchange Requirements

There are a lot of investors that end up making the mistake of selling their business or investment property but have to pay thousands of dollars in capital gains taxes to the IRS. What they may not be aware of is that there is a tax provision that allows them to sell their property which has either been used for business or some type of investment without having to pay capital gains taxes.

The taxes you would normally need to pay on the sale of an investment property can be deferred (if not eliminated entirely) with this law. But when you sell your property, the proceeds must be used exclusively to purchase a property that is considered “like-kind” – that you also intend to use for investment or business purposes. By taking advantage of the 1031 exchange law you can save more money which in turns allows you to put more money into your property and or even buy a property you would never been able to afford if you had to pay taxes.

A benefit to many investors, the 1031 exchange law has the potential to save you a boat-load of money, and is worth the time an effort to put to use. In order to reap those rewards, there are some specific procedures you need to follow.

First of all, you are well advised to choose professional qualified intermediary (also known as a “QI”) with a good track record. Qualified Intermediaries deal exclusively with the facilitation of tax exchanges, they are the experts. The Qualified Intermediary enters into a contract to change the transaction from a “Sale” to an “Exchange” so that the Q.I. transfers your old property that you are giving up to the buyer, takes the proceeds, and then uses the proceeds in order to transfer the replacement property to you.

In order to qualify for this exchange you must abide by the following rules:

1. Firstly, the investment property that you are replacing must have been used for investment purposes or use in a trade or business and must be “like-kind” (i.e. United States real estate for other U.S. real estate).

2. Secondarily, you will need to locate a property to replace your property if you have not yet done so, and make sure it is identified clearly in writing within 45 days to your Qualified Intermediary. It is necessary to close on the sale on the replacement property within one 180 days.

3. In order to defer all of the taxes, all your money made in that sale must be used to purchase the new replacement property.

Follow these rules and you will be in the best position to faciliate your 1031 tax exchange. This will be well worth it to you in the end, even if it seems a little complicated from time to time, the basic procedure is really quite simple. Do yourself a favor and keep your capital gains by using a 1031 exchange instead!

The Obama Administration has a different set of national defense priorities than the prior administration. These shifts in priority could represent an opportunity for investors interested in biomedical programs and products. With less emphasis on missiles and bombs and more on diplomacy, the new administration is likely to be friendly to innovative technologies contributing to both public health and defense against disease outbreaks, whether.

Emergent Biosolutions, traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol EBS, is the largest and best known of the biodefense specialty companies. This company is experienced with large government contracts, and has long years of involvement in vaccine production. They produce the only vaccine approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to prevent anthrax infection. Emergent has additional programs to develop vaccines for botulism, tuberculosis and other infectious diseases of both defense and public health importance. Unlike most companies, Emegent’s stock has generally increased in value during the global economic downturn.

iBioPharma, Inc., traded on the OTC Bulletin Board under the symbol IBPM, is a newcomer to the public stock markets, but not to biodefense research. This company recently became public as a result of a spin-off from a larger, long-standing company primarily focused on other markets. The stock price dropped significantly after the spin-off, probably due to existing parent company shareholders who had no interest in biotechnology or biodefense converting their new shares into cash. In an exclusive relationship, a well established research institute provides iBioPharma with patents, technology, and product candidates, including influenza, plague, and anthrax. The U.S. government has partially funded iBioPharma’s technology.

PharmAthene, traded on the AMEX exchange under the symbol PIP, was formed in 2001 and is developing products for defense against both biological and chemical products. Initially backed by private venture capital funds, PharmAthene became public in 2007 through a reverse merger with Healthcare Acquisition Corporation. The price of PharmAthene’s stock has dropped along with the rest of the market, despite significant government funding commitments tied to the achievement of various scientific benchmarks.

The Bahamas are known as an island of rest, relaxation and luxury vacations. This archipelago of islands is usually not associated as a nation of finance and offshore banking, unlike the nearby Investing in the Cayman Islands. More info is available here: Building Wealth Offshore.

However, long after you visit the hundreds of beautiful tropical islands in the area, you will still be wowed by Bahamas offshore banking! Thanks to movies like James Bond, offshore banking has been given a bad name. Some nations feel that anything offshore is associated with something seedy. Banking internationally and offshore is currently very popular, despite common misconceptions. It is also and completely acceptable, providing that you are straighforward with the tax officials in your local nation.

Nassau, as the capital of the Bahamas, is the biggest and most lucrative business center in the country. Self-ruled. the Bahamas answer to nobody. It has its own system of banking privacy laws as well as a no-tax jurisdiction policy. The local government adheres to standard international laws for all offshore tax haven countries.

Is there significant advantages to using the Bahamas for your offshore banking?

First and foremost, in this country personal income is tax free! There is no need to stress over any kind of taxation, including sales tax! All it takes to enjoy these benefits is have a special trust arrangement there.

Of course, one of the best advantages besides free taxation is banking secrecy. This keeps all of your financial information from prying eyes. Obviously, this freedom isn’t available to ones who live in countries like the UK. Are you thinking “What about the IRS!!” right now? Your income does hold a good deal of interest to the IRS. Your investments offshore must be reported if you have them. It would take a Supreme Court ruling to make the banks here turn over your private information. That gives clients confidence that they will not be hassled by any legal entities. You are safe as suspected tax evasion is certainly not going to merit the Supreme Court’s attention!

Asset protection affords yet another benefit to banking offshore. Keeping your assets Stateside always holds the chance of having it taken away from you in one way or another. Especially so if you are in a profession that is frequently subject to lawsuits. However, open minded speculators have side stepped that peril by instituting an international corporation free-standing from lawyers and civil mandates. An offshore bank account gives the holder an open door to many international markets that would otherwise not have been open to them. As you might know, international markets offer competitive rates on mutual funds returns (due to the lack of taxes). Estate planning is also far less complex this way.

Over half of the worlds assets are found in offshore institutions. In fact, many companies are starting to get into the business of offshore banking in the Bahamas. This really is one of the biggest industries in the Bahamas.

Anytime you buy stocks what you want to consider first is if the price will go up or down in the foreseeable future. Not stopping to take this into account, may very well cause your portfolio to spiral downward.

After thinking about the first crucial piece of information, you must make sure that the stock is valued correctly. Should you start to think that buying undervalued stocks means learning how to trade forex successfully then you are sorely mistaken. Simply put, knowing how to pick stocks is the same as learning how to buy like a professional. Supposedly you can even get some stock market investing software to help you identify cheap stocks.

What are cheap stocks then? Cheap stocks are stocks that are priced below what they are worth on the market. Knowing how to find and buy these cheap stocks is how the gurus make all their money on the market.

What do you do to buy a stock when it is cheap? First off you want to find a sector that is not doing as well as it should or will be performing well soon . Very that the PE multiple of your stock is favorable when compared to it’s competitors PE multiple. If the stock price looks like it will go higher and the competitor comparison is good, then you have on your hands an under priced stock. Buying the stock should be considered if you think the price should be higher.

Does this mean you should not learn how to buy in ETF markets? Don’t be foolish. If you refuse to learn other ways of investing then you will probably end up broke. Learning how to invest in things like mutual funds will help. You will be sorry if you don’t take the time to learn. Mutual funds are a great way to grow your savings and retirement money consistently over several years. You do not want to be one of the foolish and broke do you?
