Team building can be very important to improve staff working relationships, and can help them get on better. Team building events can help motivate staff.

When I worked at a garden centre in the office there was very much a them and us devide between the office staff and the shop floor staff. Our boss decided to do something about it, and started once a week for half an hour what I called “buddy building”, but it was actually team building.

All 30 garden centre staff would gather on the shop floor to hear what the latest team building activity was going to be. there our boss would annouce what we were to do and the team building targets he had set.

One time he asked us to pair up into small teams of 3 or 4 and gave us a sheet of questions, which were about the garden centre products, flowers and plants.

Not only did this help us get on better, but it also taught us more about the products we were selling.

Another week we were asked to find another member of staff and pair up, find 2 new products from the shop floor, and were given 10 minutes to read what the new products were for. The next part was particularly hard as I was very shy.

The new product was shown to the other staff, about 30 altogether, and the benefits of buying it and price was told to everyone. This was highly embarrassing but after the first time became good fun. New members of staff quickly became intergrated within the existing members of staff, got to know each other faster and it broke the ice.


These team motivation events were actually quite good fun.

TEFL Certificates and Getting That First Job in Japan

TEFL and ESL forums are jam-packed with ESL teachers who write that you will need a CELTA equivalent course to secure Any kind of work in the ESL field. This isn’t exactly the case. What is true however, is  that an Online TEFL course won’t cut it in hyper-competitive markets  like areas of western Europe.

But it will everyday of the week and twice on Sunday in an entry level position in Japan.

It’s common for language schools in more competitive markets (like some countries in Western Europe) to demand higher qualifications and succeed in getting them from their candidates. Key to ending the vicious cycle of sending piles of resumes out without results is picking targets like Japan that are easier to knock down.

So by focusing on Japan instead of highly competitive markets you’ll be more successfull.
